About Us

Hi, my name is Robert.

The American Medical Association states that sleep disorders affect 1 in 3 people in the United States. That’s over 33% of the population. Approximate 7% of Americans have been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. It's estimated than 1 to 4 percent of children suffer from sleep apnea, many of them being between 2 and 8 years old.

Back in 1981, Dr. Colin Sullivan developed the first CPAP machine for controlling O.S.A. The first CPAP machine was made from a spa pump to control air pressure. This is the very best way to control sleep apnea, as it is 100% effective, that is, IF you can get used to wearing a mask on your face for 6-8 hours a night. Alternative methods, such as surgery or dental appliances, have been found to be considerably less effective at about 50%.

Now About Me

Believe me when I say, I know about sleep apnea. Over 25 years ago in 1986, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and I have tried almost everything. Being 40 years old at that time, and

being somewhat vein, I decided to start with surgery to control my problem of obstructive sleep apnea. After 3 failed surgeries, I was told that 2 more alternative surgeries were available to me. Either, have my jaw broken and moved forward, or to have a tracheotomy and remove a plug in my throat at night to breath while I sleep. I opted for a CPAP machine.

As stated before, CPAP is 100% effective when used properly, however, using CPAP created it’s on unique problems. First, getting used to wearing a mask on your face for 6-8 hours and trying to sleep is a very trying experience. It can take from days to weeks or longer, to get used to wearing the mask with air pressure blowing into your face. Another problem is dry mouth and throat from positive air pressure blowing to open the obstruction in the throat area. Medical equipment companies have now, come up with humidifiers for CPAP to help with dry mouth and throat and to make breathing easier. (Warm moist air compared to cold dry air previously).  How important is it to control Sleep Apnea? Sleep apnea has been determined to cause health problems such as day time sleepiness, which causes more than 30% of all car accidents, hypertension, heart attacks, stroke and even death. Other effects are; problems with high blood pressure, diabetes and ED, to name a few.

I had finally settled on sleeping with the BiPAP machine, but now had another problem. I would get up every morning to go to work with red marks on my face, which ran across my cheeks, from the mask’s headgear.  These marks would last for hours. I tried wash cloths, socks, (clean ones, of course), and even toe bandages to protect my face from strap marks. I found that a tube type cover over the straps did the trick and had my wife Marian make me some soft covers for the straps. THEY WORKED GREAT! No more strap marks on my face in the morning and I slept more comfortably in the headgear. I was one happy camper!

My wife and I realized that there were millions of other people also suffering through these problems. We really wanted to help them with what we had discovered. In 2001 we put in a patent to develop this idea further.

Since then, we improved the design by adding a Velcro closure for easy installation and in 2005 we started our company, MARS Enterprises, which stands for Marian and Robert’s Enterprises. We were the very first to develop comfort accessories to use with CPAP masks. Since then, we have continued to be first in developing other products for CPAP, such as the CPAP Hose Clip for Hose Management; Medical Equipment ID Tags for carry-on luggage on airplanes, Medical Emergency Cards which include your CPAP settings for your wallet or purse. We now have about a dozen products that we manufacture or have manufactured for us, to make using CPAPmore comfortable. Since 2005, we have sold our products to over 50 Medical Supply Companies, in 3 countries and to individuals in 32 countries. Our desire to help others is still the driving force behind our business.

WE MAKE THE BEST SO YOU CAN GET YOUR REST!
